Winter Storm Still Expected Monday Afternoon Through Early Tuesday Across NE OKA winter storm is poised to impact NE Oklahoma an especially areas NW of Tulsa. At this time is appears most of
the area will receive beneficial rains along with very strong and gusty winds on Monday before the rain transitions
to snow during the late afternoon. Current official projections are for 1-2 inches from I-40 north to I-44 then
2-5 north to a Bartlesville to Ponca City line. Stay tuned as this will likely change some. The snow gradient appears
as it if will be very dramatic NW of Tulsa with a difference of 5-10 inches being across just 75-100 miles. A Winter
Storm Warning has been issued just north and northwest of Tulsa with blizzard warnings further west. Here is the
NWS warning graphic. I would expect a Winter Weather Advisory to be issued for areas along and south of I-44
southward to I-40 if the NWS snowfall forecast continues to verify.

Winter Weather Advisory Expanded and Upgrade for Parts of NE OKA Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the northern tier of counties in NE OK while the Winter Weather Advisory has been
expanded one county to the south. It now appears that Tulsa could receive 2-4 inches of snow through this evening
with a transition to freezing rain overnight. It is possible the advisory will be upgraded to a winter storm warning at some
point this afternoon. Areas just north and northwest of Tulsa could receive 3-7 inches of snow today before
it transitions to freezing rain and sleet overnight tonight. There could be a break in the snow as a window of
above freezing temps could allow rain to take over for a period of time this afternoon. This seems to be accounted for in
the forecasts. Stayed tuned as just a degree or two change in temperatures at or above the surface could
drastically change winter precipitation types and amounts. Here are the official advisories and warnings. WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CST THURSDAY...

OFF LATE THURSDAY MORNING. * 2 TO 4 INCHES OF SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATION...WITH LOCAL
AMOUNTS NEAR 6 INCHES...ARE EXPECTED BY THIS EVENING. ALSO UP TO A QUARTER INCH OF ICE ACCUMULATION

ADDITIONAL WIDESPREAD AND HEAVIER PRECIPITATION WILL MOVE INTO THE AREA TONIGHT
AND CONTINUE THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING. THIS IS LIKELY TO BE A MIXTURE OF FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET...WITH
MINOR ICE ACCUMULATIONS LIKELY. AGAIN...TEMPERATURES ARE LIKELY TO REMAIN
NEAR FREEZING WHICH WILL IMPACT THE DEGREE OF ICING. SHOULD THE FORECAST TEMPERATURES TURN COLDER...THEN

Winter Weather PotentialThere is the potential for winter weather on Wednesday possibly through very early Thursday for NE Oklahoma.
Current Risk Areas:
Low Risk:
Areas south of Tulsa are at the lowest risk of winter weather but
have the potential for some rain/snow mix very early Wednesday before transitioning to all rain by noon.
Tulsa has the potential for a rain/snow mix with accumulations
to two inches Wednesday before noon before it transitions to all rain.
Moderate Risk:
Areas
NW of Tulsa could experience snow Wednesday morning before transitioning to a rain/snow mix late Wednesday
morning then into a rain/snow/sleet mix Wednesday evening into Thursday morning. Snow accumulations to 4 inches appear possible
at this time.
Moderate to High Risk:
Areas NE of Tulsa have the potential for some snow
and sleet early Wednesday before it transitions to rain then back to freezing rain and sleet Wednesday evening and especially
overnight into early Thursday morning. There is a decent potential for a enough freezing rain to cause power outages
especially just east of these areas into NW Arkansas.
Kansas, Missouri, and
NW Arkansas counties along the Oklahoma border are all currently under a Winter Storm Watch.
There
is some concern that a moderate ice storm could impact NE Oklahoma and especially NW Arkansas will heavy freezing rain and
gusty winds causing significant power grid issues.
Obviously Tulsa is in the center of a very complex
weather set up with a lot of variables that could change things up significantly.
Updates to follow as needed.

Snow Accumulations Expected Tuesday Night Over Parts of NE OK352 PM CST MON FEB 11 2013
...ACCUMULATING SNOW STILL EXPECTED FOR PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA AND NORTHWEST
ARKANSAS TUESDAY NIGHT...
AN UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM OVER THE DESERT SOUTHWEST TODAY WILL MOVE EAST ACROSS
OKLAHOMA AND ARKANSAS TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. MOISTURE WILL BE DRAWN NORTH INTO THE SYSTEM DURING THE DAY
TUESDAY...AND THE LATEST DATA SUGGESTS THAT SURFACE TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN IN THE MID TO UPPER 30S AND SUPPORT A COLD RAIN DURING THE DAY TUESDAY. THE RAIN COULD MIX WEST OF THE TULSA METRO ARE IN THE AFTERNOON WITH SOME ACCUMULATION
POSSIBLE ACROSS WESTERN OSAGE AND PAWNEE COUNTIES LATE IN THE DAY. ANY ACCUMULATIONS WOULD BE CONFINED TO GRASSY
ELEVATED SURFACES.
COLDER AIR WILL GRADUALLY WORK ITS WAY EAST BENEATH THE UPPER SYSTEM AS IT MOVES OVERHEAD
TUESDAY EVENING. RAIN WILL CHANGE OVER TO SNOW ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA AND NORTHWEST ARKANSAS
DURING THE EVENING TUESDAY. THIS WILL OFFER THE BEST OPPORTUNITY FOR ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL...WITH 1 TO 2 INCHES POSSIBLE
IN AREAS WEST AND NORTH OF TULSA AND MUCH OF NORTHEAST ARKANSAS. MUCH OF THIS ACCUMULATION MAY BE CONFINED TO GRASSY
AND ELEVATED SURFACES DUE TO THE MARGINAL AIR TEMPERATURE AND WARM GROUND. SOME SNOW IS ALSO POSSIBLE IN HIGHER
ELEVATIONS OF SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA AND WEST CENTRAL ARKANSAS TUESDAY NIGHT.
STAY TUNED TO THE LATEST FORECASTS
AND STATEMENTS FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TULSA...AS THIS FORECAST WILL CONTINUE TO BE REFINED AS NEW
DATA COMES IN.
